Between the Threads is a contemporary textile art exhibition at Creative Room Art Space in West End, Brisbane, bringing together eight artists whose practices span a remarkable range of textile techniques and traditions.
The exhibition features work by Amon Nyx, whose fabric collage portraits are built from salvaged and stitched materials; Lilia Kulikova, working in Japanese textile traditions including shibori dyeing and sashiko embroidery; Renata Buziak, whose luminous biochrome prints on chiffon are created through a process that fuses living plants with photographic materials; Yulia Pustoshkina, who creates spiritual animal totem dolls in the tradition of folkloric surrealism; Vera Alexanderova, working in large-scale feltmaking in merino wool and silk; Martina Latimer, whose contemporary quilting and paper piecing works in bold geometric compositions; Helle Cook, a Danish-Australian artist whose ink on silk works explore light, place and belonging; and Monique Baqués, whose intimate mixed media works use thread, fabric and collage to tell the stories of real women.
Creative Room Art Space is a contemporary gallery and studio located at 15 Dornoch Terrace, West End, Brisbane, dedicated to supporting early-career and mid-career artists. Open Wednesday to Saturday.
